what was the GCOB (great chain of being?)
idea everyone was ordered by god into their allotted place with the king being at the head just below god and then the angles.
what did the GCOB lead to an idea about?
if the wrong person was monarch everything would go wrong for a country.
by committing regicide what did macbeth do to the GCOB?
took duncans place, macbeth was subverting the natural order.
what was the divine right of kings (DROK?)
ancient idea that began with Europe’s medieval kings, they claimed that they had been chosen by god and were his representatives on earth so they had absolute power and could as they liked.
what did it mean that james 1st was a believer of DROK?
any treasonous activity was a crime against god.
DROK: what would it mean if you loved and obeyed your monarch but what would also happen if you committed treason or regicide?
go to heaven. go to hell.
why did a lot of people agree with the DROK?
one century earlier there was the battle of the roses so to avoid civil unrest people supported this ideology.

Greek phrase meaning the king’s gift.
who was the KBD written by and what form was it in?
james 1st. 1599. letter to eldest son.
how many books in BD separated into and what do they serve as a guideline for?
- follow to be an efficient and effective monarch/ ruler.
what does the first book of the BD describes?
king’s duty towards god as a Christian (eg: study the bible and pray often.)
what does the second book of the BD describe?
focuses on the roles and responsibilities in office (eg: know your subjects, wife shouldn’t meddle in politics shouldn’t be a tyrant.)
what does the third book of the BD describe?
proper behaviour in daily life. (eg: don’t over drink or sleep, eat meat, be clean and polite.)
