How much sleep is required?
8hrs every 24hrs
Why do we need sleep?
So mind and body can be restored
Can you work with less then 8hrs sleep?
Yes but the sleep defect will need to be rectified
Sleep rule of thumb?
1hr sleep = 2hr activity
Circadian rhythm?
Describes the body clock.
Controls the alternation between sleep and wakefulness.
What controls the circadian rhythm?
Brain but influenced by external factors such as light
How long is the circadian cycle?
25hrs
What are the 2 types of fatigue?
Physiological fatigue
Subjective fatigue
Physiological fatigue?
The body’s need for replenishment and restoration
Physiological fatigue is linked to what?
Physical activity levels, current health, alcohol consumption and circadian rhythm
How is physiological fatigue remedied?
Rest and sleep
Subjective fatigue?
How sleepy a person feels
What is subjective fatigue caused by?
Delayed sleep
