What are the three categories of migraines?
Classic, Common, Chronic
What are features associated with migraines?
- Episodic
- visual disturbances
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Hypersensitivity to light, sound, smell, touch
- Facial tingling or numbness
Common migraines (without aura) diagnostic criteria:
- Time: 4-72 hours
- two of the folllowing: Unilateral, pulsating, moderate-severe Px intensity, aggravation or avoiding routines
Common migraine headaches normal experience two symptoms while experiencing the headache. What are they?
- nausea and/or vomiting
- Photophobia and Phonophobia
What are the diagnostic criteria for a migraine that has an aura?
2 or more attacks with
(1) - visual, sensory, speech/language, motor, retinal
And..
(3) - 1 Aura symptom > 5min
- >2 aura symptoms at least 5-60 min.
- 1 unilateral aura symptom
- Accompanied of followed with 60min headache
What is a hemiplegic migraine?
With aura including fully reversal of motor weakness., starts with temporary motor paralysis, sensory disturbances that includes one Side of the body and lasts <72 hours.
What are features of an ophthalmoplegic migraine?
Px surrounds the orbit and lasts from a few days - few months. This includes paralysis of mm surrounding eye, and patient should seek immediate medical attention.
What do you expect to experience with Retinal migraine?
Temporary, partial or complete loss of vision in one eye followed by a dull, ache behind the eye.
