Which drug should you NOT proscribe if not trained addiction management?
Buprenorphine (mixed agonist/antagonist)- shorter acting, less risk of lethal overdose, used in opiate addiction
triad of opiate overdose?
pinpoint pupils, respiratory depression, coma
what is most commonly used to treat overdose?
naloxone- injection only (nasal version)
what is most commonly used to treat opiate dependence? (not used for withdrawal- need to be clean at least 7-10 days before starting)
naltrexone (oral)
other warning signs of drug overdose:
purple blue fingernails/skin, clammy pale, difficulty speaking, nausea
