M15.12 Air Systems Flashcards
What are the 3 sub systems of air systems?
. Compressor control system
. Clearance control system
. Engine cooling system
Are all 3 systems independent from each other?
Yes
What are the 3 subsystems in a compressor control system?
. Variable valve system
. Variable stator vane system
. HP compressor bleed valve system
What are the 3 compressor control systems controlled by?
. Hydro- mechanical fuel control unit or FADEC system
What is the main task of the compressor control system?
. Protect the engine against stall and surge
What do the variable bleed valves do?
. Control the airflow to the high pressure compressor
Where are the variable bleed valves located?
. Installed in the fan frame behind the low pressure compressor
What 2 ways does is the HP compressor protected against stall and surge?
. Some engines have bleed valves to bleed of excess air
. Or several stages of variable stator vanes to control the airflow into compressor
What do the variable stator vanes do?
Control the incoming airflow into the HP compressor
What do bleed valves at the HP compressor improve?
. Engine starting and acceleration capabilities
Where are engine bleed valves found?
. Mid or aft stages of HP compressor
