M15.10 Lubrication Systems Flashcards
What is the main function of the lubrication system?
. Distributes oil to the engine bearing components and gear boxes
What lubrication systems do most turbine engines use?
A self contained dry sump lubrication system
What is the oil revisor and supply system also called?
. Pressure oil system
Where is the supply filter located?
Downstream of the supply pump which removes any fod
What does the supply filter prevent regarding the nozzle??
Prevents blockage of oil nozzle
What is the purpose of the scavenged system??
. It’s part of the every day dry sumo lubrication system, and returns the oil from bearing compartments and gearboxes to oil tanks
By having a scavenge system what does this prevent?
Accumulation of oil in bearings and gearboxes
What does the vent system do?
Releases air from lubrication systems to the atmosphere
How many scavenge pumps are there per line??
. One
What does the oil monitoring system do?
Measures and indicates oil quantity, oil pressure and oil temperature
What are the 5 different types of sensors??
. Oil quantity sensor
. Oil pressure sensor
. Oil temperature sensor
. Low oil pressure switch
. Filter clogging switch
What do mechanical clogging indicators do?
. Indicate a clogged filter when the engine has stopped
What is another name for mechanical clogging indicators?
Pop out indicators
How can contamination be checked?
By inspecting filters and using magnetic chip detectors
Where are magnetic chip detectors installed??
In individual scavenge lines of each sump which makes it easy to isolate source of contamination
What is a main advantage of magnetic chip detectors in accordance to maintenance??
They are easily removed for inspection
Where is the oil quantity transmitter installed??
At the top of the oil tank which allows the transmitter to be changed without draining the tank
What are the two types of transmitters?
. Capacitance
. Reed switch type
