M15.10 Flashcards
What type of lubrication systems do most gas turbine engines use?
Self contained dry sump systems
What are the four sub systems for the lubrication systems?
- oil reservoir and supply system
- scavenge system
- vent system
- monitoring system
What is the oil reservoir and supply system also called?
The pressure oil system
Where is the oil supply filter located?
Downstream just before the oil nozzles so the nozzles don’t get blocked
What does the oil monitoring system do?
It monitors oil quantity, oil pressure, oil temperature
Where are magnetic chip detectors located?
In individual scavenge lines of each sump
Why is the oil quantity transmitter located at the top of the oil tank?
So you can change it without draining the tank
What are the two types of oil quantity transmitters used?
Capacitance type and reed switch type
What is the engine low oil pressure warning always accompanied by?
An acoustic warning in the cockpit
What are the two types of oil temperature sensors?
Thermocouple and thermistor
What does SOAP mean and what does it do?
Spectrometric Oil Analysis Program and they are used to find out about internal wear of engine components
What size particles does SOAP pick up?
0.02-0.001mm
What size particles does the scavenge oil filter element catch?
More than 0.015mm
How does a electronically monitored chip detector work?
It uses two magnets which decrease in resistance when they’re blocked
When are oil quantities checked?
When its specified in the maintenance schedule
