One female gender role
Woman should be the stay at home parent
This involves cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children.
People argue this as woman give birth to kids meaning the caregiving characteristics come naturally to them.
Positive of gender roles
- The mums staying at home means they can develop a better relationship with their children
- People can be determined to prove them wrong
Negatives of gender roles
- Moral issues can arise like the gender pay gap
- They put us in a box which can limit people’s potential
Judaism view on gender roles
“(wives) you desire shall be to your husband and he shall rule over you” - Torah (Genesis 3:16)
This tells us that husbands should be in charge and dominant in relationships. Also that wives should be loyal
The impact could be that woman won’t get to be free and make their own decisions
Islamic views on gender roles
“Indeed, muslim men and women, the believing men and women, the patient men and women, the charitable men and women, for them Allah has prepared a great reward” - Qur’an (Syrah 33:35)
This tells us that Allah created both men and women of equal value and no matter what your gender is you will get rewarded. This can have a positive impact on society as everyone will be treated fairly. This can result in everyone being kinder and nicer which makes the world a better place to live
Non religious views on gender roles
Utilitarian
A utilitarian will depend the situation they are faced with at the time. they will only support gender role if the gender role can produce the greatest happiness for the greatest number
Positive utilitarian view on gender roles
-Majority of people will be happy
-They don’t place importance on stereotypes and don’t think about them
Negative utilitarian view on gender roles
-They can’t predict the consequences
-Doesn’t take into account of the unhappy minor it and they may feel ignored
What moral issues are raised by gender roles
- Is a women’s main role to have children ?
- Should there be gender neutral clothing ?
- Should there be the gender pay gap ?

In 1986 they created the humanist work congress which

Women are being paid 15% less than men for the same work - Goes against human rights
UDHR states “all human beings are both free and equal in dignity and human rights” - Glass ceiling
Many women can see top jobs but can’t break through or reach them. For example the percentage of female CEO’s is less than 5%
Christian views on equality
God created both Adam and Eve on the 6th day in his image. This tells us they were created equally.
Eve was made from Adam’s rib and originally made as Adam’s helper. This tells us that women should be helpers to men and rely on them
Humanist views on equality
- Everyone’s human rights should be respected and honoured
- Be given equal opportunities
- They support feminism
