Lympthatic Circulation Flashcards
What are the 3 components of lymphatic circulation?
Lymph vessels, lymph and lymphatic tissues and organs
What is the function of lymphatic circulation?
Involved in the body’s defence mechanisms and provides a mechanism for interstitial drainage
What is the name of the fluid when in the capillary
Plasma
What is the role of capillary blood pressure
Pushes fluid out of the capillary into the interstitial fluid
What is the role of blood colloid osmotic pressure?
Pulls fluid back into the capillary - mainly due to plasma proteins
How does filtration occur in capillary exchange?
The capillary blood pressure (CBP) is greater than blood colloid osmotic pressure at the arterial end
What is necessary for reabsorption in capillary exchange?
Blood colloid osmotic pressure is greater than capillary blood pressure at the venous end
How much fluid is reabsorbed into capillary’s?
Approximately 85%
What are lymph capillary’s
Blind ended tubes that are located adjacent to capillary beds
Where does the right lymphatic duct drain lymph from and to?
from the right side of the head, thorax and right upper limb
to the right subclavian vein
Where does the left thoracic duct drain lymph from and to?
from the remainder of the body
to the left subclavian vein
