Q

what do lymph vessels do

A

lymph vessels take up tissue fluid, the lymph flows through these vessels, where it is drained back into the heart

Q

what causes lymph vessels to take up fluid

A

plasma leaks out of capillaries into the intercellular spaces due to blood moving around the body which increases the pressure in capilleries, forming tissue fluid which bathes cells

Q

what allows for the lymoh to flow through lymph vessels and not backwards

A

lymph vessels are blunt ended/have valves so the lymph wont flow backwards, movement from body muscles allow the lymph to move tp the heart

Q

what is the function of the spleen

A

filters blood passing through it - clearing bacteria, viruses and worn blood cells. contains t and b cells the detect and respond to infectious agents in the blood, contain other immune cells

16
Q

function of the lymph node

A

contain and large number of WBC, bacteria picked up from the tissues by lymph are trapped here, as well as cancer and virus cells, where t and b cells then kill them

17
Q

why do lymph nodes swell

A

when you have an infection, b and t cells increase in the lymph nodes, causing the swollen glands
