LYMPHATIC Flashcards
4 sites of lymphatic development
thymus, bursa, bone marrow, peyer’s patches
A lymphoid organ associated to the circulatory system
Spleen
A fluid containing infection-fighting white blood cells
Lymph
Primarily consist of lymphatic vessels connected to lymph nodes, where the lymph is filtered.
Lymphatic System
An organ that functions as blood reservoir, graveyard for old RBCs, and blood-forming organ for young animals.
Spleen
It appears as a raised homogenous band at the antimesentric side of mucosa
Peyer’s Patches in Ruminants
5 sites where lymphocytes respond to antigens
lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, peyer’s patches, bone marrow
A network of tissues and organs that help rid of the body of toxins, wastes, and other materials.
Lymphatic System
Lymphoid organ located in the walls of the small intestine.
Peyer’s Patches
An organ of immature animals undergoing involution at puberty, although never completely disappearing, lies cranial to the heart with portions extending along the trachea craniad to the ventral neck.
Thymus
This organ is found only in birds, round sac located just above the cloaca, reaches its greatest size in the chick about 1-2 weeks after hatching and then shirks as the bird ages.
Bursa of Fabricus
Discrete knots (small bean-shaped structures) of lymphoid tissues scattered along the course of lymph vessels.
Lymph nodes
An unencapsulated aggregate of lymphatic nodules associated with pharyngeal mucosa.
Tonsil
Filters the lymph and act as one of the first defenses against infection by harboring lymphocytes, plasma cells, and macrophages.
Lymph nodes
Constitute a one-way pathway that parallels the venous system and eventually empties into the cranial vena cava or some of it tributaries
