Lymph system 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Lymph system
A
- drainage
- collection
- transport of lymph to venous system
- absorption and transfer of fat
- defense mechanism (transports antibodies to fight)
filtering system
2
Q
Entry for Lymph
A
RIGHT DUCT (right upper body) THORACIC DUCT (rest of body)
3
Q
Thymus
A
produces T-lymphocytes in adulthood
4
Q
Spleen
A
- largest lymphatic organ
- protected by ribs
- gets larger in size when you are sick
- blood is monitored by t-cells gor pathogens
- macrophages swallow and digest debris in the blood
5
Q
3 types of lymphocytes
A
- T-CELLS (thymus dependant)
- produced by thymus gland
- stored in thymus, spleen or lymph nodes - B-CELLS (bone marrow)
- where RBC made - NK CELLS (natural killer)
6
Q
t-cells
A
- thymus dependent
- 80%
CYTOTOXIC TCELL
-destroy pathogen
HELPER TCELL
-help others
SUPPRESSOR TCELL
-suppress pathogen
7
Q
Defense mechanisms
A
NON SPECIFIC DEFENSES
- NK cells (kill everything regardless of what it is)
- fever, inflammation etc.
SPECIFIC DEFENSES
- depend on lymphocytes
- special tcells
8
Q
Immune response
A
INNATE IMMUNITY
- dont need previous exposure
- born with nk and t cells
- always same response
ACQUIRED IMMUNITY
