Transverse fissure and oblique fissure

Oblique fissure
Where is the transverse fissure?
From 5th rib laterally to 4th costal cartilage
Where is the oblique fissure?
T3-6th costal cartilage
Where is the lingula?
Most inferior part of the upper lobe of the left lung
What is the cardiac notch?
The indentation in the left lung due to the left ventricle of the heart
When is the phrenic angle largest?
Inspiration
What is tension pneumothorax?
Pneumothorax can cause a mediastinal shift and compression of the heart. Clinical emergency.
What is pleural effusion?
Build up of pleural fluid that can compress lung
What are the bronchopulmonary segments?
They are segments of the lungs supplied by segmental/tertiary bronchi.
What is found in the hilum of the lung?
Bronchus posterior
Artery anterior
Vein below
Describe the lymphatic drainage of the lung
Intrapulmonary lymph nodes –> hilar lymph nodes –> tracheabronchial lymph nodes –> paratracheal lymph nodes –> bronchomediastinal lymph nodes
