Lungs Flashcards
Lungs: General Characteristics
Has an apex (projects above the clavicle but not above the neck of the first rib)
Has a base (rests on diaphragm)
Lungs: Costal Surface Separation Characteristics
Separated Anteriorly from Mediastinal Surface by Anterior Margine
Separated Inferiorly from the diaphragmatic surface by the inferior margin
Lungs: Hilus
Only location where it is not free of the pleural cavities
Contains the root of each lung and the pulmonary ligament

of Fissures in Right lung?
2: Oblique and Horizontal
RIght Lung Oblique Fissure: Characteristics
SEparates Upper and Middle lobes from Lower lobe
Right Lung oblique fissure: Location
Starts at the 5th rib or higher posteriorly, follows the 6th rib to reach the diaphragmatic border anteriorly
Right Lung Horizontal Fissure: Characteristics
Separates middle from upper lobe, beginning at 6th rib in the mid-axillary line and ending at the 4th rib behind the sternum
LEft Lung: Characteristics
An oblique fissure separates the lung into 2 lobes
