Arterial supply
Right bronchial artery (x1)
- Arises from the 3rd posterior intercostal artery
Left bronchial arteries (x2)
- Arise from the thoracic aorta
- Divided into the superior and inferior bronchial arteries
Each bronchopulmonary segment receive its own bronchial artery supply
Anastomoses with pulmonary artery branches
Venous supply
Bronchial veins – carry 13% of blood back to heart (the rest drains via the pulmonary veins)
Right bronchial vein:
-Drains into the azygous vein
Left bronchial vein:
-Drains into the superior hemiazygous vein
Lymphatic supply
Tracheobronchial lymph nodes:
1) Pretracheal (anterior)
2) Paratracheal (sides of trachea)
3) Superior tracheobronchial (superior border of carina)
4) Inferior tracheobronchial (inferior border of carina)
5) Intrapulmonary (deep to hila and surrounding bronchi)
6) Bronchopulmonary (hila of lungs)
