Lung Channel Flashcards
Where does the lung primary channel originate?
Middle jiao in the region of the Stomach
What does the lung primary channel descend to and connect with?
Large intestine
The lung primary channel connects with the following zangfu?
Stomach, Large intestine, Lung
What are the pathological symptoms of the Lung sinew channel?
Cramping and pain along the course of the channel. When severe there is accumulation of lumps below the right lateral costal region, tension along the lateral costal region and spitting of blood
Where is the Lung sinew channel, and which points does it attach to?
Originates at Lu11. Emerges in region of St12, travels to L15
The Lung has 5 principle functions, which?
* Governing qi and controlling respiration * Controlling disseminating and descending * Regulating the water passages * Controlling the skin and body hair * Opening into the nose
Summarize some of the symptoms that the Lung channel can treat
Respiratory disorders (coughing, dyspnoea, wheezing, asthma, shortness of breath) Nasal disorders (nose bleed and obstruction) Treating the throat (dryness, soreness, congestion, swelling and pain) Treating oedema and obstructed urination when this is caused by impairment of the Lung’s function of regulating the water passages and controlling disseminating and descending Treating vomiting due to rebellion of Stomach qi
What are the actions of Lu1?
Disseminates and descends Lung qi and alleviates cough and wheezing Transforms phlegm, clears heat and regulates water passages Descends Stomach qi
What are indications for Lu1?
Cough, dyspnea, asthma, fullness of chest, breathing with raised shoulders, oppression of the chest and difficulty breathing Heat in chest, aversion to cold, chills and fever, sweating Throat painful obstruction, nasal congestion, swelling of the face Difficult ingestion, vomiting, Gall Bladder heat vomiting, retching, abdominal distention Skin pain, running piglet qi with lumbar pain, goitre, pain of upper back and shoulders
How do you needle Lu1?
Transverse-oblique, 0,5-1 cun medially allong the intercostal space
How do you needle Lu2?
Transverse-oblique 0,5-1 cun
What are the actions of Lu2?
Clears Lung heat and disseminates and descends Lung qi. Dispels agitation and fullness
What are the indications of Lu2?
Respiratory symptoms Pain lateral costal region and back Pain of the back and shoulders Pain of the shoulder with inability to raise the arm Pain of the supraclavicular fossa
Where is Lu3?
3 cun inferior to the axillary fold and 6 cun superior to Lu-5, in the depression between the lateral border of the biceps brachii and the shaft of the humerus
Location note of Lu3, if you divide the distance between the axillary fold and the cubital crease of the elbow into equal thirds, where is the Lu3?
At the junction of the upper and middle third
What are the actions of Lu3?
Clears Lung heat and descends Lung qi Cools blood and stops bleeding Calms the corporeal soul
What are the indications of Lu3?
Respiratory symptoms, nosebleed, spitting blood, coughing blood Somnolence, insomnia, sadness, weeping, disorientation, and forgetfulness, floating corpse ghost-talk, melancholy crying ghost talk Goitre, swelling of throat, pain inner aspect of upper arm, dizziness, swelling and distention of the body, malaria, visual dizziness, short-sightedness
What is the location of Lu4?
4 cun inferior to axillary fold, the depression between the lateral border of biceps and shaft of humerus
How to needle Lu4?
Perpendicular 0,5-1 cun
What are the actions of Lu4?
Descends Lung qi Regulates qi and blood in the chest
What are the indications for Lu4?
• Cough, dyspnoea, asthma, shortness of breath • Heart pain, palpitations, agitation and fullness, retching • Pain in medial aspects of the arm, purple-white wind blotches
