Where is Li1?
Dorsal aspect of index finger, radial border of the nail and base of the nail, 0,1 cun from the corner of the nail
What are the indications for Li1?
Throat painful obstruction, tootache of the lower jaw, pain of the lower cheek, swelling of the submandibular region, dry mouth, deafness, tinnitus
Pain of the shoulder and back that radiates to the supraclavicular fossa, numbness and heat of the fingers
How to needle Li1?
Perpendicular or oblique directed proximally 0,1-0,2 cun, or prick to bleed
Where is Li2?
Radial border of index finger, in a depression just distal to the MCP joint (easier to find if fingers are flexed and relaxed)
How to needle Li2?
- Oblique proximal or distal insertion 0,2-0,3 cun
What are the indications of Li2?
• Tootache, pain and swelling of the lower cheek, deviation of the mouth and eye, nosebleed, throat painful obstruction, dry mouth, cloudy vision, eye diseases, yellow eyes
Febrile disease, cold shivering
Propensity to fright, somnolence
Pain and stiffness of the shoulders and back, cold and pain at the point of Li15
Where is Li3?
Radial side of index finger, in the substantial depression proximal to the head of the second metacarpal bone
How to needle Li3?
Perpendicular 0,5-2 cun, directed towards Si-3, needle with hand in a loose fist position
What are the indications of Li3?
Throat painful (and non painful) obstruction, tootache of the lower jaw, acute eye pain, dry scorched lips and mouth, nosebleed, tinnitus, chills and fever
Acute stiff neck, redness and swelling of the dorsum of the hand, difficulty flexing and extending the fingers
Where is Li4?
On the dorsum of the hand, between the 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones, at the midpoint of the 2nd metacarpal bone and close to its radial border
How to needle Li4?
- Perpendicular 0,5-1 cun
Indications for Li4?
Headache, one-sided headache, headache of the whole head, hypertension
Redness, swelling and pain of the eyes, dimness of vision, superficial visual obstruction
Nosebleed, nasal congestion and discharge, rhinitis, sneezing
Swelling of the face, deviation of the face and mouth, lockjaw, deafness, tinnitus
Painful obstruction and atrophy disorder of the four limbs, hemiplegia, pain of the sinews and bones, pain of the arm, contraction of the fingers, pain of the lumbar spine
Where is Li5?
Radial side of wrist, in the centre of the hollow formed by the tendons of extensor pollicis longus and brevis (anatomical snuffbox)
How to needle Li5?
Perpendicular 0,5-1 cun
What are the indications for Li5?
Rhinitis, nosebleed, tinnitus, deafness, ear pain, redness, swelling and pain of the eyes, superficial visual obstruction, lacrimation, toothache, headache, chronic headache, frontal headache
Weakness and pain of the wrist, contraction of the five fingers, heat in the palms, difficulty in raising the elbow
Where is Li6?
3 cun proximal to Li5
How to needle Li6?
Transverse-oblique 0,5-1 cun
What are the indications of Li6?
Tinnitus, deafness, tootache, redness and pain of the eyes, dimness of vision, blurred vision, deviation of the mouth, swelling of the cheek
Difficult urination, oedema, obstruction of the diaprhagm
Pain of the wrist, elbow and upper arm
Where is Li7?
5 cun proximal to Li5 Divide the distance between Li5 and Li11 in half, and move 1 cun distal to find Li7
How to needle Li7?
Transverse-oblique 0,5-1 cun
What are the indications of Li7?
Headache, deviation of the face and mouth, redness, swelling and pain of the face, pain of the teeth and mouth, tongue thrusting, throat painful obstruction with loss of voice
Borbygmus with abdominal pain, abdominal distention, sudden swelling of the four limbs
Pain and difficulty in raising the shoulders and arm
Where is Li8?
On the radial side of forearm 4 cun distal to Li11
How to needle Li8?
Perpendicular or oblique 0,5-1,5 cun
What are the indications of Li8?
Abdominal pain, lower abdominal distention, fullness and pain of the abdomen and lateral costal region, blood in the stool, dark urine
Headache, dizziness, pain of the eye, dry lips with drooling, dyspnoea
Hemiplegia, pain of the elbow and arm
