Lung Flashcards
What is difference between parietal pleura vs visceral in covering?
parietal= cover entire thoracic cavity Visceral= cover only lung
What is the extent of parietal vs visceral pleura?
Parietal= T8 (anterior), T10 (lateral) and T12 (posterior) --> longer Visceral= T6 (anterior), T8 (lateral) and T10 (posterior) --> shorter
Which pleura is more sensitive to pain?
parietal
Which lung is bigger? Right or left?
Right
What are the fissures of each lung?
Right= horizontal + oblique Left= oblique
What are the lobes of each lung?
Right= upper + middle + lower Left= upper + lower
Where is the costodiaphragmatic recess?
Inferiorly
Where is the costomediastinal recess?
cardiac notch (left)
What is pleural effusion?
fluid accumulation @ costodiaphragmatic recess
What is pneumothorax?
Punctured pleura (parietal) -> look at apical regions of xray (which is darker) -> the darker one is pneumothorax
What is pulmonary collapse?
alveolar collapse –> appears white
What is flail chest?
Damage to ribs -> impaired ventilation -> cant rise and lower
What is fluid in lung sound like?
dull
What is pulmonary edema?
accumulation of water in lung
