Ludlum 3001 Flashcards
What is it?
Radiation detector. Uses 4 external radiation detectors (44-2,44-9,133) to detect alpha beta or gamma radiation
3 Modes of operation
Rate- Displays current count, exposure or activity rate
Max-Used to capture highest count activity or exposure rate detected
Count-Allows user to perform a count for a predetermined time. scaler time, averaged rate, time averaged exposure or integrated exposure or dose
Log button
Push button allows up to 1000 data points
batteries
Uses 4AA batteries 500 hr life
Display
Display is automatically backlit
Obscure stuff
Different modes can be silent or utilize clicks or sigma audio
Obscure stuff
Clicks are always on silent during count mode
ON/ACK Button
ON/ACK-On button
Short tap- acknowlege/ silence alarms
Long tap- Start/reset Count timer in count mode will take new background reading in sigma audio
UNITS button
Used to switch between primary and secondary units in all modes
DETECTOR button
Short tap- switch between active detector (1,2,3,4)
Long press- Only used in device menu. where viewing in detector overload parameter, long press will allow user to view actual current level
MODE button
Used to advance between 3 operating modes- Rate MAX Count
LOG button
tapping log button will start a count and automatically log the result. Long press of log button will toggle display between timer and reading during count. Audio clicks are disabled during count mode
Startup screens
Firmware version
Voltage
Stored data logs
Sigma audio
changes audio sound from click to something more useful for scintillation detectors because high count makes click less useful
Sigma audio
Unit measures background radiation alarm for 8 seconds on powerup then sets a low threshold rate above background rate, instrument will “beep” when it sees more than threshold value
Detector Failure Diagnostic
Can detect when radiation detector is malfunctioning and will flash display to indicate fault. If it stops detecting radiation for a settable number of seconds it will flash zero for current selected units
Detector over range
Unit will flash 999 and alarm at top of the screen
Detector overload
used to detect failure whether its cable detector or high level of radiation
Units
C-Counts per count time
d-Disintegrations per count time
cpm,cps-count rate averaged over count time
dpm, Bq-Disintegration rate, averaged over count time
R/hr,Sv/hr- Exposure or dose rate averaged over count time
R,Sv- Integrated exposure or dose over the count time
Specs
Detector-Geiger-Mueller or scintillator or proportional
HV range-400-1500 Vdc
Alarms- Count rate, exposure/dose count alarms
Overload- High count rate saturation protection prevents false display of lower count rates
Zero protection-after a set number of seconds of no pulses from detector, unit will flash zero and alarm audio will be triggered
