Q

Name a few game selection mistakes

A

-Playing in zoom games where I can’t game select at all

-Playing in a high rake environment where better rake is available elsewhere

-Selecting a bad seat on a table where a better seat is available

Game selection can be the difference between staying in 50NL for a year and blasting through it in 3 months!

Q

How should I think about stake selection?

A

Don’t think about myself as a X-limit player - this makes me blind to opportunities of making more money in different limits. For example, maybe I can make more money in 50NL even if I’m a winner in 100NL.

-Be flexible with the stakes I play.

Q

What’s the idea behind “time of day” selection?

A

There are certain times of the day that I can reach a higher win rate (less regs more whales).

In global pools, the majority of the competition are European regulars,so the best time to play at those pools are when it’s night at europe, 4-5am european time.

Q

What’s table lineup selection?

A

Assessing what’s the skill level of the players at the table relative to mine.

Ideally, I want to have as many fish and as many weak regs as possible

Q

Why is seat selection important and where do I want to sit?

A

With the same table lineup, my win rate can be much higher in one seat versus another seat. I want to be in position to the fish - “The Jesus seat” :D If I play in position to the whale I’ll make much more money compared to playing OOP to the whale.

Q

What should I do when I can’t manually select a seat? (Some poker platforms don’t allow it)

A

Open many tables and close the ones in which my position relative to the fish is bad or the fish is tight. Keep opening tables until I find 6-8 tables with a good fish in a good relative position.

What’s the definition of a whale?

A

50% VPIP or more,While the most profitable seat is to his direct left (in position to him), it’s profitable to play on a table with a whale from any seat (15bb/100 IP, 7bb/100 OOP to the whale).
