LSB - Module 3 - Gameplan vs regs Flashcards
What 4 subgroups of regs exist?
not all regs are the same, there are a few sub groups within the regs group:
- The weak-tight regs are passive and overfold massively
- The spewy regs - The ones who are too aggressive, leading to huge punts like forced aggression and bad calldowns
- The average regs - neither too passive nor too aggressive
- The very good regs, top 5% of the pool
Playing regs- what’s crush the bottom avoid the top principle mean?
There are regs that I can beat, and others that I can’t beat, get as much money as possible from the bad regs, and do whatever I can to avoid losing to the good regs.
How should I play vs the bad regs? How should I play vs the good regs?
Play very exploitative vs the bad regs, really go after them and punish them for their mistakes.
Play a solid game (close to theory) vs the good regs, don’t play exploitative strategies against them. Main goal is to not get substantially exploited.
Understand that I may get outplayed in zones I’m not familiar with, so try to funnel the game into areas I know.
For example, if a solver would either raise or call with the same ev, ask myself which branch i’d execute better -> They don’t have the same ev if I’m more familiar with raising than with calling.
How do I play solid vs the good players?
On early streets be very stable and follow as close to GTO as I can. That way I don’t leave myself vulnerable on high frequency spots, and I have control of my own range over the next streets. To achieve that I need randomization for the mixed strategy hands .
What is a discontinued aggression line?
a line when there was a check in the middle of the hand, either on the flop or on the turn, like delayed c-bet, or Bet-check-Bet. For example as PFR IP we check back flop and he checks turn, or if we bet flop he calls, check-check on the turn and he checks river.
What should I do vs a discontinued aggression line?
Attack it. When humans are required to construct a discontinued aggression line (=checking range), they make substantial mistakes.
- Slowplay less nuts than they should
2.Depolorize less than they should
- Bluffcatch less than they should with marginal hands
The first leak makes their range capped, value bets of the IP player increases - there’s a lower chance of getting check-raised
Second leak makes their checking range heavier on bluff catchers (people pure checking with many hands they should be playing as small bets very often, making their checking range concentrated on bluff catchers).
The third leak leads to a massive overfold when compound with the first 2 leaks.
Name 3 principles when playing vs regs
1.Crush bottom, avoid top
2.Attack discontinued aggression
3. When in doubt, fold
What is the principle of “when in doubt, fold”
In spots where I’m not sure whether I should invest more money (either by calling or by bluffing), don’t, and in my next study session dive into that spot so I gain the confidence needed the next time I encounter that spot.
What’s an important guideline when choosing flop c-bet sizes toolkit? What names do I give those?
Bet sizings will be spaced out eg 12%,25%,50%,100% and 200% and not 25%,33%,50%,75%. Tiny, small, medium, large
What’s the most common c-bet on the flop?
a small c bet, i should learn the boards on which I should bet big (the exception to the rule)
Name boards on which i should c-bet big on the flop
Two tone double broadway boards are low frequency big size boards
low boards with straight draws
When double-barrelling on the turn, what sizes should I use mostly? What sizes does Saulo use for those?
Medium, Large, very large (hardly no small sizes). Saulo uses half pot,pot and 2x pot
Give a few examples of
-When should I keep barrelling big on the turn?
-When should I size down on the turn?
On a blank turn, after I made a big bet on the flop (double broadway two tone for example) when the turn is a blank, I want to bet big.
On a flush completing turn for example, or a board pairing card (especially the middling card on the flop), bet small.
How to think about bet sizes? What are different sizes used for?
Different sizes are used to target different regions of my opponent’s range - a bet size is a tool to minimize a certain part of my opponent’s range.
When should I be using a very large sizing at the turn?
When I bet the flop small and i have the advantage (for example A high board flop and Q turn)
