LSB - Module 2 - Crushing the fish Flashcards

1
Q

What’s the first principle of playing vs fish?

A

It’s all about preflop: Most of their leaks postflop is a result of their wide range preflop. They call weak hands, so it’s impossible not to overfold or overbluff when you play so many weak hands.

Their weak range allows us to bluff them, and to call light vs them.

Q

Why is it wrong to fast play value hands vs recs?

A

Give them rope - I’m making more money against their air region than I’m making vs their bluffcatching region. Therefore the way to play against them most of the time is to slowplay my strong hands.

Q

Name the 4 principles of playing vs recs

A
  1. It’s all about preflop (fish wide ranges)
  2. Give them enough rope (slowplay strong value)
  3. punish their wide range (overbluff)
  4. Play my hand in a vacuum, hand vs range, no complex strategies or randomization.

Q

Should I open wider or tighter vs fish? Why? From what positions?

A

Wider from late positions- their postflop mistakes make a wide range open more profitable (and the fact that they hardly 3-bet). From early positions if I’ll open wide, ppl will be able to exploit me (at least in theory).

Q

Should I 3-bet wider or more tight vs fish’s BU open as BB? Why?

A

Wider; They under-4-bet; Postflop exploits vs fish will make it profitable.

Q

Should I 3-bet linear or polorized vs fish?

A

Linear - goal is to flop a decent hand and then print using the exploits vs fish

Q

Should I 3-bet more or less as BB vs fish sb open?

A

Less, fish make more mistakes as the aggressor OOP than as caller OOP. In position, they make more mistakes as the caller.

Q

At what circumstances should I open limp? With what range? Why?

A

As LJ/HJ when there’s at least one fish on my left, with TT+ and AK. The fish will iso wide and then call a 3-bet so this prints money.
(If i open they are going to cold call too much and 3-bet too little)

If I do this with regs, it has to be regs that don’t know me

Q

IP as PFA, what’s the most profitable line vs fish? Why?

A

Bet small- check-bet river.

Q

How often do fish bluff on the line bet flop- call, x x turn, fish bets river?

A

over 50% bluffs up to a 70% pot-sized bet, pot size or more- their bluff frequency decreases. Up to 70% pot it’s profitable to call them with A-highs.

Q

At what level do fish think about the game?

A

One or zero- they think only about their specific holding, and not about my range, what i represent etc. Therefore, it’s profitable to bluff them even if I don’t represent much.

Q

Vs fish: What’s the benefit of raising air on the river on a bet-call-x-x-bet river (half pot or lower)? What range do we target? With what hands it’s good to do so?

A

The extra benefit is making the fish fold his low pairs or pocket pairs, which is what we target with this line. We can do it with A-highs (that are profitable as calls too), or with total air (K-high).

Q

What’s the recommended line as PFR OOP with SDV on the flop vs fish? Why?

A

Bet small flop, assuming I have SDV: check turn and call down their bets (turn and river). Fish over-stab turn and overbluff the river. I need to call with A-highs on low boards(!) if I have enough equity eg I beat the bluffs.

On the flop, what if I get raised by the fish when I have SDV?

Still call down

Q

What’s the other line (other than bet small flop and call down) vs fish as PFR OOP? Why is it profitable? When does it fit more than bet small-call down line?

A

Check flop, bet turn, bet river. It’s profitable because fish will bet their range linearly on the flop once checked to, so their already wide range preflop has a lot of air on the turn once they check flop.

Bet big turn to bet big river, or bet small turn to bet big river (and make him fold). Saulo prefers bet small turn-bet big river since there’s more FE at the river.

This line is more appropriate with my air hands.

16
Q

What are the two main lines as PFR OOP vs a fish? Which portion of my range each line is intended for?

A

With SDV: Bet small flop, check and call down turn and river

Without SDV: Check flop, bet turn (mostly small),bet river (mostly big).

17
Q

What should I do OOP as PFC vs fish when they check back the flop and I have air?

A

Bet small-bet river, fish overfold vs probs (small to make it cheaper for myself and keep their range wide), and also overfold on the river. Recommended bet size on the river with air at this discontinued aggression line is 1.2X pot size (for continued aggression it’s smaller,33%-50% pot).

18
Q

What should I do OOP as PFC vs fish when they check back the flop and I have a high equity hand? When should I deviate from that?

A

I can bomb the turn, a relative big size. Use a small size anyways when their range is inelastic,eg they are going to fold a big part of their range even to a small bet.

19
Q

What should I not do vs fish?

A

Be passive and check-fold. I want to exploit them given their leaks.

20
Q

What are some inelastic situations examples?

A

4 to a straight boards,
4 to a flush boards,
3 flush cards complete on the turn

21
Q

vs fish as OOP PFC, when flop goes X-B-C and turn gets checked through, what should I think about and why?

A

Be aggressive, since their check range on the turn is extremely weak.

-Be aggressive with my low pairs as well eg I can turn those into bluffs.

22
Q

What should I do vs 3-barrel from a fish?

A

vs river sizing which is less than a pot size, it’s very profitable to call as they overbluff.

If river sizing is a potsize or more, their range is more balanced eg not overbluffing.

23
Q

At what textures on average will fish have more bluffs?

A

Low boards, therefore it’s great to bluffcatch on low boards.

24
Q

vs fish, When should I check-raise wider on the flop as OOP PFC? What should I do on later streets?

A

On boards where they shouldn’t c-bet a lot and they do, and boards where it’s hard to defend vs a check-raise (paired boards, dry boards) expand my check-raise range.

Check turn so that they reveal the strength of their hand (fish don’t slowplay very often), and overbluff river (overbet or 75% pot are most profitable).

25
Q

What should I do as PFC IP once the fish checked twice (flop and turn)

A

Take any hand that doesn’t have enough SDV to check back and call a river bet, and turn it into a bluff. Fish very infrequently check twice with a strong hand, so their range is very weak. The plan is to bet turn small and bet river (any sizing, don’t have to bomb it as all bet sizes have the same profitability vs fish in this line)

26
Q

Why should I not get frustrated by the fact that most of the time I’m going to lose when calling down vs a fish?

A

To be profitable I just need to be good more than what the pot odds dictate, not most of the time!!

27
Q

How do I determine if it’s a fish? How do I determine if it’s a passive fish?

A

Fish - high vpip.
Fish passivity- the gap between vpip and pfr
