What monthly checks will be carried out on LSA?
All LSA, including lifeboat and rescue boat, equipment required to be inspected.

ensuring battery charging from an engine is OK.

Water spray systems checked operational as per manufacturers instructions, washing through SW systems with FW after use.

Push switch to test position, light will start to flash
Check expiry date of battery
Log in gmdss logbook
What checks should be done on SART?
Release SART from holder
Ensure in open water with no ships in vicinity
Activate self test button, red light will show SART has been activated
On x band radar will pick up SART.
Check battery expiry
Renew battery every 4 years
Log in GMDSS log
What are the markings on immersion suit?
Manufacturers name
Date of manufacture
Size
Serial number
Instructions that warm clothing should be wore if not insulated
What is an immersion suit designed to do?
Permits wearer to carry out normal duties
If no insulation will ensure core body temperature does not fall more than 2 degrees in water of 5 degrees after 1 hour
If has insulation will ensure core body temperature does not fall more than 2 degrees in water of 0-2 degrees after 6 hours.
Not designed to keep you dry.
What does a TPA do for you?
Reduce loss of heat from wearer.
Should be capable of being donned in survival craft
Covers full body except face when wearing life jacket.
What are the penalties for misuse of distress signals?
£50,000 fine
