what are the contents of a fire plan?

A

Fire sections enclosed by “A“ & “B” class divisions

Fire detection and fire alarm systems

Sprinkler installation

Fire-extinguishing appliances

Fan control positions , position of dampers and ventilating fans

A duplicate set of plans stored outside the deckhouse for the assistance of shore-side fire-fighting personnel.

Machinery Spaces and Tanker Pumprooms 
 – Gas system i.e. CO2  
– High-expansion foam system

 – Dry powder system  
– Water spraying or sprinkler system  
Galley (Deep-fat cooking equipment) 
 – Automatic or manual system

What portable fire extinguishing appliances did you have on you last vessel?

A

Learn last ship and what you had available to you
Vessel shall carry at least 5 portable extinguishers
CO2 extinguishers not permitted in accommodation spaces

In spaces containing electrical equipment, extinguishing media should not be electrically conductive or harmful to the equipment

Spare charges for 100% of first ten extinguishers and 50% of the remaining extinguishers (Not more than 60 required)

For those that cannot be recharged onboard, additional extinguishers of the same quantity, type and capacity shall be carried.

A

All firemen’s outfits, extinguishers, hydrants, hoses and nozzles are in place and serviceable.

All escape routes including stairways and corridors are free of obstructions and properly maintained.

Public address system and ship’s alarms serviceable.

Dry pipe sprinkler systems are pressurised, where appropriate, and gauges indicate correctly.

Sprinkler system pressure tank water levels are correct as indicated by glass gauges.

All sprinkler systems pumps operate correctly on loss of pressure.

All fire pumps are operational.

All fixed gas fire-extinguishing systems are free from leakage.

A

A

Where practicable, all aqueous foam and water spray fixed fire fighting installations operate correctly.

All accessible components of fixed fire-fighting systems, typically nozzles, are free from damage or obstruction, on visual inspection.

All fire pumps, including sprinkler system pumps, develop correct pressures and flow rates.

All hydrants operate.

All antifreeze solutions are correctly maintained and cross connection between fire main and sprinkler system operates correctly.

Fixed fire fighting installations operate correctly, according to manufacturer’s test instructions
