Lowerlimb Nerves and Vessels Flashcards
What is the order of the arteries
Aorta, iliac artery, external iliac artery, femoral artery (obturator foreamen), popliteal artery (adductor hiatus to posterior), posterior and anterior fibial artery
Where do superficial veins of the lower limb begin?
Dorsal venous arch
What does the dorsal venous arch split into?
Greater saphenous (medial) small saphenous (lateral)
What causes varicose veins?
Valves between the deep and superficial veins do not work so the superficial veins become engorged with blood
What lymphatic duct does the lower limb drain to?
Thoracic duct on the left side
What innervates the anterior compartment of the thigh?
Femoral nerve
What innervates the medial compartment of the thigh?
Obturator nerve
What innervates the Gluteal muscles?
Gluteal nerve
What innervates the posterior compartment of the thigh?
Sciatic nerve
What innervates the posterior compartment of the leg?
Tibial nerve
What innervates the lateral compartment of the leg?
Fibular nerve (common peroneal nerve)
What muscles does the femoral nerve innervate?
Quadriceps
What muscle does the sciatic nerve innervate?
Hamstring
What muscles does the tibial nerve innervate?
Gastrocnaemius, soleus, intrinsic muscles of the foot
