Lower Extremity Imaging Flashcards

- What pathology is shown in this image?
- What type of image is this?

Pes anserinus bursitis
MRI, T2 weighted (fluid is bright)

- What type of image is this?

T1 weighted MRI

What artery would be most affected by fracture to the femoral head/neck?
Medial circumfrential artery

What artery would be most affected by an intertrochanteric fracture?
Lateral femoral circumflex artery

What pathology is shown in this image?

Early (right) and advanced avascular necrosis
What are the implications of femoral fracture location with regards to outcome and treatment?
The location affects whether blood supply was compromised and thus what type of repair is appropriate. If the blood supply was not irreversibly damaged, then it is possible to put in fixation to allow natural healing. If the blood supply is too severely damaged, full prosthetic replacement may be necessary.

What pathology is demonstrated in this image?

Torn ACL leads to knee instability –> tibia can slide forward

If you suspect that a person has a foreign body remaining in their body, what is the best type of imaging to use?
