What are false ribs?
Ribs 8 - 10. They attach to cartilage that all attaches to the cartilage of rib 7, which then attaches to the sternum. As such, they have no individual and direct attachments to the sternum.
What are ribs 11 and 12?
Floating ribs - they have no attachment to the sternum at all.
