Low G+ C Flashcards
Phylum clostridia
Bacilli
Obligate anaerobes
Can make endospores
C. Perfrigens - food poisoning, if endospores activated can make toxins that kills tissues
C. tetani - tetanus
C. difficile - serious digestive tract infections.
c. Botulinum -makes botulinum toxins, lausesparalysis
Phylum lactobacillus
Bacilli and coccus
1) lactobacillus
2) leuconostoc - used to ferment foods
3) enterococcus - gut bacteria
4) streptococcus -
→ S. pyogenes - skin diseases, flesh-eating disease
→ S. Pneumoniae - depends where it is infecting; causes pneumonia, meningitis, osteomytitis, endocarditis
Bacilli
Some are bacilli, some are coccus
Genera:
1) bacillus - form endosperm, used antibiotics, restriction enzymes; B. Anthrax, B. Cereus (food poisoning), B. Thuringiensis (pest control)
2) staphylococcus - facultative anaerobes, non -motile.
S. epidermidis - live on the skin and kill other bacteria’s
S. Aureus - known for skin infections
MRSA - very resistant to antibiotics; can be lethal
Mycoplasmas
Atypical; no cell wall but low G+C
Tiny sized bacteria.
Pleomorphic (variable shaped)
Tested using NAAT
M. pneumoniae
M. Genitalium - causes STI
