Looking Inside Cells Flashcards
Cell wall
Rigid layer that surrounds the cells plants and other organisms
Cell membrane
Controls which substances pass in and out of a cell
Nucleus
Large oval structure
Organelles
Tiny cell structures
Ribosomes
Smaller organelles that produce protein
Cytoplasm
It fills a region between the cell membrane and the nucleus
Mitochandria
A rod shaped structure that converts energy stored in food to energize the cell so it can live and function
Endoplasmic reticulum
A maze of passageways that helps make the protein.
Golgi apparatus
Receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the ER
Vacuole
A sac that stores water, food, and other materials needed by the cell.
Chloroplast
Captures energy from sunlight and changes it to a form
Iyosomes
Sac like organelles that break down large food particles into smaller ones.
Multicellular
Made up of many cells (plants and animals)
Unicellular
Single-called organisms
Tissue
A group of similar cells that work together to preform a specific function
