Virus
Tiny, non living particle that enters and then reproduces inside a living cell
Host
An organism that provides a source of energy for the virus or another organism
Parasite
An organism that lives on or in a host and causes it harm
Vaccine
A substance introduced in the body to help produce chemicals that destroy specific viruses
Bacteria
Prokaryotes, no genetic material in the cells’ nucleus
Cytoplasm
The region inside the cell embrace
Ribosomes
Tiny structures in the cytoplasm where proteins are produced
Flagellum
A long, whiplike structure that helps a cell to move

The process of breaking down food to release energy
Binary fission
A process in which one cell divides to form two identical cells
Conjunction
The process in which one bacterium transfers some of its genetic material into another bacterium
Endospore
Small, rounded, thick-walled resting cell that forms inside a bacterial cell
Pasteurization
Food is heated to a temperature that is high enough to kill most harmful bacteria without changing the taste of the food
Decomposers
Organisms that break down large, complex chemicals in dead organisms into small, simple chemicals
Fungi
Eukaryotes, have cell walls, heterotrophs
