Stimulus
Any change or signal in the environment that an organism can recognize and react to

Cells that carry info through your nervous system

The message that a neuron carries
Dendrite
A branchlike structure that picks up the impulses

The long structure
Central nervous system
Includes bran and spinal cord and acts like the traffic cop
Peripheral nervous system
Includes all the nerves outside of central nervous system. Act like car drivers

Control center
Spinal cord
Thick column of nervous tissue that links the brain to the peripheral nervous system
Cerebrum
Interprets input from your senses, controls movement, and carries out complex mental processes such as learning and remembering
Cerebellum
Coordinates your muscle actions and helps you keep your balance
Brain stem
Controls your body’s involuntary actions. For example, it controls your breathing and heartbeat
Stomatitis nervous system
Controls voluntary actions, such as using a fork
Autonomic nervous system
Controls involuntary actions, such as digesting food
Reflex
An automatic response that occurs rapidly without conscious control
Concussion
Occurs when the soft tissue of the brain is bruised as it collides against the skull
Cornea
The clear tissue that covers the front eye
Pupil
The opening through which light enters the eye
Iris
A circular structure that surrounds the pupil and regulates how much light enters the eye
Lens
Flexible structure that focuses light
Retina
Lines the back of the eye and contains light-sensitive cells
Nearsightedness
See nearby objects but not far away objects
Farsightedness
Can see things far away but no close
