Fatigue: build individualized eating plan, use foods easy to prepare and eat, use ONS, monitor wt, promote phys activity as able
Wt changes: monitor wt, ensure nutrient intake is balance to achieve and maintain a healthy wt, promote phys activity with wt bearing activity and resistance exercise
Breast
Impaired bone health: adequate intake of calcium and vit D, wt bearing exercises
Wt gain, metabolic syndome: adjust energy, fat and fiber intake, promote phys activity
Cardiovascular complications: recommend a plant based diet, wt bearing exercise
Prostate
impaired bone health: calcium and vit D, wt bearing exercise
Enteritis, chronic diarrhea: increase fluid intake and balance electrolytes, decrease fat intake, alter fiber intake and limit dairy as needed
Lung and Bronchus
Esophageal pain, dysphagia: alter food consistency, use ONS, alte food temps, avoid EtOH, spicy and acidic foods, monitor wt
Respiratory failure: monitor and correct fluid balance, decrease carb intake if indicated
Long term NIS: Colon and Rectum
Malabsorption: increase intake and modify sources of malabsorbed nutrients, monitor nutrition and wt status
Altered liver function, cirrhosis: increase intake of malabsorbed nutrients, monitor liver enzymes, if cirrhotic follow those recs
Wt change: monitor wt, ensure balanced intake for maintaining or achieving a healthy diet, balance intake with phys activity
Irregular BMs: alter fiber intake, consume adequate fluids, use pro- or pre-biotics if appropriate
Enteritis, chronic diarrhea: increase fluid/ lytes intake, decrease fat, adjust fiber and limit dairy intake
Bowel strictures/ obstructions: depends on location of stricture, provide EN/ PN as appropriate
Urinary Bladder
irregular BMS: alter fiber intake if needed, consume adequate fluids, monitor fluid intake, balance electrolytes
Uterine Corpus
Impaired bone health: calcium/ Vit D, wt bearing excerise
Thyroid
hypothyroidism: adjust energy intake to maintain a healthy wt, promote phys activity to meet guidelines for survivors
Non- Hodgkin Lymphoma/ Kidney
Metabolic syndrome: adjust energy, carb, fat, and fiber intake to promote a healthy wt, promote phys activity
Hypothyroidism: adjust energy intake, promote phys activity
Decreased creatinine clearance: monitor renal labs, adjust nutrients as needed for renal disease
HTN: monitor and adjust sodium intake, promote wt control and phys activity as appropriate, promote adequate intake of calcium and potassium
Renal failure: monitor renal labs, adjust nutrients as needed for renal disease
Oral Cavity and Pharynx
Xerostomia: ensure needs are met with oral intake if possible, promote “wet” foods and good oral care, alter food and beverage consistency as needed, use ONS, consider nutrition support
Dysphagia: consult SLP, alter food and beverage consistency as needed, use ONS, monitor wt and nutrition status
Tooth decay, periodontal disease: alter food and beverage consistency as needed, use ONS, alter food temperature if tooth sensitivity is an issue, alter types of foods consumed if dysgeusia is an issue, consult a dental professional
Leukemia
Kidney Stones: inc fluid to rec’d levels
Impaired bone health: calcium/ Vit D, wt bearing exercise
metabolic syndrome: adjust energy, carb, fat, and fiber intake to promote a healthy wt, promote phys activity
Hypothyroidism: adjust energy intake, promote phys activity
Ovary
Impaired bone health: calcium/ Vit D, wt bearing exercise
