- Illness work - diagnosis and management of symptoms
- Everyday life work - coping and normalisation
- Emotional work - protect others well being, downplay symptoms
- Biographical work - loss of self, disruption of taken for granted behaviours
- Identity work - how people see them and how they see themselves
