A
Anything that promotes good health or leads to illness

Classical conditioning
A
- Emotional or environmental cues cause expectation of drug or alcohol
- These cause relapse
- Cues to be avoided or change association w cues to change health behaviour
eg. Disulfirim so when drink alcohol feel sick

Operant conditioning
A
- Reasons behind behaviour shaped by reward or punishment
- Behaviour reinforced if there is a reward or reduced if their is a punishment
- But humans driven by short term rewards and avoid short term negative consequences

Social learning theory
A
- People learn through observation
- Perform behaviours if they are valued or have self efficacy for

Limitations of conditioning theories
A
- Based on simple stimulus response associations
- Don’t take into account beliefs, knowledge or memory

Cognitive dissonance theory
A
Discomfort when actions and events don’t match beliefs
Change behaviour to reduce discomfort
