  • A bomb hit the school on the night that the busses were supposed to evacuate the people
  • Government reported about 73 deaths whilst the local papers reported the number to be between 400-600

what happened on the 3rd of March 1943 in Bethnal Green

A

Bethnal Green was an underground station that held up to 7,000 people

  • New anti-aircraft missiles were fired nearby, they were mistaken for bombs and people immediately started to rush down the station
  • 173 people died in the crush

A

The V2 were ballistic missiles that exploded before people knew it was coming, a double bang was heard as it broke the sound barrier
-It lead to a new evacuation and damaged or destroyed over 1.3 million houses
