Logistics Flashcards
Sub-division of logistics Based on Goods
- Material Logistics - to transport (vehicles, conveyor belts, cranes,…); to store (ground storage, rack storage..); To commission, create loading units, pack;
- Information Logistics - to transfer (discs, internet,…); save (hard drives, USB-sticks,…); Add, delete, datawarehousing,..)
- Individual transportation - to transport (trains, airplanes,…); To wait (railway, stations, airports,..); To enter, exit, change
Subdivision of Materials Logistics Based on Phases
Supplier — External Transport— Receiving store (Procurement logistics, Materials) —- Internal transports — Production store (Production logistics, semi-finished products)—Internal transports —-Distribution store (Distribution logistics, finished products, commodities) —external transports —-customer
Logistics Targets
Cost Target : Logistics costs, capital commitment;
Time Targets: Lead time, right timing;
Result Targets: Right place, Right kind/ quantity, Right quality/ characteristics;
Logistics Tasks
- Designing Logistics Systems :
- Systems of transportation (Loading aids, Means of transport);
- Systems of storage (Warehouse location, Means of storage);
- Logistics control (Collect-system, Bring - system)
- Applying Logistics Functions:
- Basic functions (Transport; Storage)
- Complimentary functions (Turnover/ handling, Commissioning, Packing, Compilation of loading units)
Systems of Transport
Intra company transport: Loading aids (movement within the facilities of production
- Means of transportation ( Means of conveyance - pallets, containers, workpiece carriers, continues conveyors, oscillating conveyors
Inter company transports:
- means of transport (lorry, plane, ship)
System of storage
- Central warehousing:
+ Capacities are well used, easy to keep control, usage of space - Production facility, where not everything is on one plant side, ways of transportation between warehouse and production facilities are high.
De-central warehousing:
+individual entry for different locations,
Storage forms:
-Ground storage, shelf storage, Storage on/in transport devices

De-central warehousing:
+individual entry for different locations,
Storage forms:
-Ground storage (usually done in Production, flexible, but a lot of space), shelf storage( investments are high) , Storage on/in transport devices (covers the change of characteristics of time and place, often used in production)
Steering Mechanisms
Centralized control: Bring - system
De-centralized control: Collect - system (Kanban)
Concepts for Logistics Control
- Conventional Control
- Supply Chain Management
