What is inductive reasoning?
A
- Part-to-whole reasoning used to determine the validity of an informal argument
- By starting with evidence that can be observed and compiled and works towards generalizations (example: 11 out of 12 houses on my street have a chimney, therefore the twelfth house will have a chimney)

What is deductive reasoning?
A
- Whole-to-part reasoning that determines the validity of a formal argument.
- The conclusion of such an argument must, necessarily, be true if the premises used to support it are true
- Starts from general observations to a specific conclusion
(All men are mortal; Socrates is a man; Therefore, Socrates is mortal)

A
- It starts with an observation or set of observations and then seeks the simplest and most likely conclusion from the observations.
