What is Locus of Control?

A

Refers to the sense we each have about that directs events in our lives.

What do internals believe?

A

That it’s their responsibility, they have control of their own lives and more likely to resist the opinion of others. People with ILOC are more able to resist pressure to social influence.

Resisting Conformity

A

The pressure to conform can be resisted if there are other people present who are not conforming. The fact that someone is not following the majority is social support. It enable the naive pps to follow the conscience. Breaks the unanimity. E.g Asch

Resisting Obedience

A

The pressure to obey can be resisted if there is another person who is seen to disobey. In few of Milgrams variations, the rate of obedience dropped from 65% to 10% when the genuine pps was joined by a disobedient confederate. Challenged the LOA figure, making it easier.
