Movements at the ankle & foot
Plantar surface of the foot = ventral surface = sole of the foot.
: Dorsum of the foot = dorsal surface = top of foot.
Movements of the ankle and foot occur about two anatomical planes.
* Plantar-flexion (pointing foot downward) and dorsi-flexion (pulling foot upward) movements occur about the ankle
(talocrural) joint in the sagittal plane.
* Eversion (rolling sole of foot outward) and inversion (rolling sole of foot inward) movements occur about the
frontal plane. Note that inversion/eversion occur below the talocrural joint at the subtalar joint.
