20
Q

Weather restrictions for T-38 UPT Solos to the Pattern Only. Why?

A

Minimum ceiling 4,000’ and minimum visibility 5 miles. 4,500’ MSL high pattern altitude is used for solo pattern only missions to decrease fuel prior to touch-and-go practice. 4000’ gives you VFR cloud clearances at that altitude

21
Q

Weather requirements for fluid maneuvering

A

3nm vis, clear of clouds, discernible horizon

22
Q

What is the “Restricted Weather Solos” status

A

Post-contact checkride solo students may climb and descend through IMC if it complies with regs, pre-contact checkride solos may fly a “pattern only” profile

23
Q

When crosswind procedures are in effect, formations use ____ second spacing to ensure ____ ft landing spacing

A

8, 6000

24
Q

“Dual Only” weather requirements. Why?

A

Minimum ceiling - 3,500’
Minimum visibility - 3 nm
Weather not good enough for solos, still able to maintain VFR at breakout altitude

25
Q

“Restricted Pattern” weather requirements. Why? Max number of aircraft in tinders pattern? From where can you enter the pattern?

A

Minimum ceiling - 2,300’ (to 3,500’)
Minimum visibility - 3 nm
Allows maintenance of VMC at 1,800’ pattern altitude
Max aircraft - 8
Pattern entries are from initial takeoff or following a straight-in approach (not from initial)

26
Q

“Instruments” weather requirements. Why? How many approaches can you fly at SPS during any instrument status?

A

Minimum ceiling - 2,000’ (to 2,300’)
Minimum visibility - 3 nm
T-6s can still operate with a restricted pattern down to 2000’
Fly 1 to a full stop unless approved by the SOF

27
Q

“Simultaneous Instruments” weather requirements. Why?

A

Minimum ceiling - 500’ (to 2000’)
Minimum visibility - 2 miles
Expect SOF to declare an alternate and touchdown fuel when weather is worse than 1500’ and 3
Why 500? I think this has to with WX req to keep VOR/DME E open for T6s

28
Q

“Alternating Instruments” weather requirements. Why?

When must you be on final for a full-stop landing?

A

Minimum ceiling and visibility of the lowest compatible approach. Everybody has to use ILS to 15C or 33L.
Be on final for a full-stop landing NLT 10 minutes prior to the recovery window closing

29
Q

When is FRL Low-Caution in effect?

What should you wear?

A

Wind chill less than or equal to 32 F but greater than 0 F

Thermal underwear / Winter weight jacket or Thermal shirt and summer weight jacket

30
Q

When is FLR Low-Danger in effect?

What should you wear?

A

Wind chill is 0 F to -9 F

Normally this will result in stop launch, if not wear thermal underwear and shirt, winter weight jacket, cap and gloves

Aircrews are limited to 1 walk around

31
Q

When is lightning watch in effect?

A

Up to 30 minutes prior to lightning forecast within 5 nm of Sheppard AFB

32
Q

When is lightning warning in effect?

A

Lightning occurs within 5 nm of SPS

33
Q

If any aircraft lands during a lightning watch, what should they do?

A

Clear the runway and contact the SOF

34
Q

What two things should pilots ensure after egressing the aircraft when directed to do so by the SOF in case of a lightning watch

A

Ensure canopy is closed and nose wheel is chocked

35
Q

How many cords can be showing on the main gear tires for an out-and-back or cross country for Michelin and Good Year tires?

A

No cords on a Michelin tire

Ensure no angled cords after the zero degree cords are showing

36
Q

When must you turn on engine anti-ice prior to engine takeoff run up?

A

When the ambient temperature is less than 40F (4C) or the density altitude is -1000 or below.

37
Q

When do you turn of engine anti-ice if the weather required you to use it on takeoff?

A

Turn anti-ice off no earlier than deselection of AB and no later than the first level-off check
