  • direct = purposely putting someone at a disadvantage eg. deliberately not employing someone because of their gender.
  • indirect = accidentally putting some one at a disadvantage eg. a companies policy excludes someone

  • prejudice = negative attitude/ unfair dislike to an ind./group
  • labelling = identifying someone as belonging to a gore bc of their characteristics and so treating them negatively as a consequence
  • stereotyping = making judgements about a person/ group based on one of their characteristics
  • bullying = repeatedly behaving negatively towards an individual to cause physical or psychological harm

  • what is disempowerment?

A

disempowerment:
having a lack of control over your life bc of someone abusing them or discriminating against them

low self esteem:
self esteem and confidence can be destroyed leading to them feeling worthless and depressed

poor health and well-being:
victims may become with drawn and isolated from certain situations in fear of further ill treatment. if an ind. is already ill, further deterioration can occur.
