What’s a reflective practitioner?
A reflective practitioner is a practitioner who regularly looks back at the work they do and considers how to improve.
How do you value promoting equality and diversity?
Care workers should always use non-discriminatory language and avoid patronising the individuals they are caring for. They should challenge discrimination. Provide care meetings to underline the care providers specific needs.
How do you value maintaining confidentiality?
Information should only be shared on a need to know basis. You should only share information with the individuals involved.
How do you value promoting individuals rights and beliefs?
You could provide prayer rooms and transport to churches to support religious beliefs. Use consultation when speaking with care users.
How do you value ensuring the welfare of the child is paramount?
Childcare environments should use a child centred approach where the child’s needs come first.
How do you value keeping children safe, and maintains a healthy and safe environment?
Safeguarding procedures should be in place for example staff should be DBS checked and health and safety legislation should be followed.
How do you value working in partnership with parents/guardians?
A childcare settings should welcome parents for opening days and parents evenings where they can talk about the child’s development and needs
How do you value encouraging children’s learning and development?
Give a range of activities and learning games. Have a well planned curriculum.
How do you value valuing diversity?
Teaching children about diversity and discrimination through displays, toys and resources such as books.
How do you value ensuring equality of opportunity?
Every area of the setting should be accessible and activities should be accessible to everyone.
How do you value practising anti-discrimination?
Staff should be good role models by using non- discriminatory language. Discrimination should be challenged.

If the information does not need to be shared it shouldn’t be shared.

A nursery school teacher may need to work with a nurse or health visitor to ensure the child’s safety.
