Movement
Animals can move from place to place.
Plants don’t move, they move when they grow or when a flower opens and closes its petals.
Respiration
Is the way living things get energy. They take in oxygen and mix it with food to get energy.
Sensitivity
Is the ability to react to changes in the environment. Animals will run away from danger, a plant will grow towards light.
Feeding
Animals do not make their own food.
They get their food by eating plants and other animals. Plants make their own food.
Photosynthesis
To make food they need a green dye called chlorophyll. This is why plants are green.
Excretion
Is the removal of waste in the body. Animals excrete carbon dioxide, water, urea and salts.
Reproduction
Is being able to make new individuals of the same kind. E.g. babies, new plants, puppies.
Growth
results from cell division.
Cell membrane
Very thin layer that surrounds the cell. Holds cell contents in place and controls what passes into and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm
The watery liquid found between the nucleus and the cell membrane.
Nucleus
Is normally round. It acts as the control centre of the cell. It has the DNA.
Mitochondria
Supply energy to the cell.
