Liver histology Flashcards
In embryology where does the liver develop from?
Glandular outgrowth of the primitive gut
How do absorbed food products pass from the gut to the liver?
Via the hepatic portal vein
What are Sinusoids?
wWde vascular channels that separate the plates of hepatocytes
What are Kupffer cells and where are they located?
Macrophage type cells scattered around the endothelial cells lining the sinusoids
What produces bile and to where is it secreted?
Produced by hepatocytes
Secreted into bile canaliculi, small bile duct, common bile duct then deuodenum
What are Portal tracts?
Islands of connective tissue containing branches of the portal vein and hepatic artery that bring blood to the sinusoids. Also has bile ducts which bring bowel to the small gut
What privides the sinusoids with blood?
Portal tracts
Where does the blood from the portal vein drain into?
Hepatic vein then inferior vena cava
Name 2 things transported in the portal tracts
Blood and bile
Where in the liver will you find the hepatuc hepatic acinus?
on a portal tract between 2 or more terminal hepatic venules
Describe the differences between the zones of the hepatic acinus
Zone 1 is closest to portal tract and receives the most oxygenated blood while zone 3 is furthest away, receiving the least amount of oxygenated blood.
