Q

Investigations into NAFLD

A

Liver US, enhanced liver fibrosis blood test, NAFLD fibrosis score, Fibroscan

17
Q

What will a liver US scan show in NAFLD

A

Confirms a diagnosis of hepatic steatosis

18
Q

What will an enhanced liver fibrosis blood test show

A

First line for investigating fibrosis and provides score of none to severe fibrosis

19
Q

What is a NAFLD fibrosis score

A

Second line based on algorithm of age, BMI, liver enzymes, platelets, albumin and diabetes, does not assess severity

20
Q

When is a fibroscan performed

A

If the ELF or NAFLD fibrosis score indicates fibrosis to give indication of fibrosis

21
Q

Management of NAFLD

A

Weight loss, exercise, smoking cessation, control of DM, BP and cholesterol, avoid alcohol

22
Q

What can patients with fibrosis have

A

May be treated with vitamin E or pioglitazone
