A
Check kidney function before treatment and then twice per year
Check EKG before treatment
Check thyroid function before treatment
Check a1c and cholesterol before treatment (see if they are DM or pre DM)
Check weight and BMI before treatment and every visit - can cause weight gain
Lithium trough every 1 to 2 weeks until desired level achieved, then every 2 to 3 mo for 6 mo, then every 6 to 12 mo after that
Lithium trough- acute treatment 1 to 1.5, chronic 0.6 to 1.2
