what is allusion ?
reference to something or someone well known
allegory ?
Narrative that works simultaneously on both the literal and symbolic level
Irony
- involves surprising, interesting or amusing contradictions and contrasts.
Verbal irony ?
occurs when words are used to suggest the opposite of their usual meaning
situational irony
when a event occurs that directly contradicts expectations
dramatic irony
when the reader is privy to facts unknown to the characters
Motif
a recurrent image, idea or symbol that contributes towards the development of the theme
pathetic fallacy ?
attribution of human EMOTIONS to things that aren’t human ( Its a kind of personification )
synecdoche
a literary device in which a part of something represents something beyond itself, most often something concrete or tangible that represents an abstract idea.
