pathogenesis
Internalin mediates the attachment of L
monocytogenes to the enterocytes by binding the
host cell receptor (E cadherin) and enters in an
endocytotic vacuole
Listerolysin O ( lyses the vacuole, L
monocytogenes escape to the cytoplasm
By actin polymerization, L monocytogenes move
along the cytoskeleton filaments and propel
throughout the cytosol
It reaches the edge of cell, protrudes and invades
adjacent cells
Process continues with escape to submucosa and
bloodstream invasion
Treatment
ampicillin
Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole
