Lipoprotein Flashcards
Type of the lipoprotein based on the density
Chylomicrons (B-48)
Very Low density lipoprotein (VLDL) (B-100)
Low density lipoprotein (LDL) (B-100)
High density lipoprotein (HDL) (Apo-A)
Function of chylomicrons
Transfer exogenous triglycerides (TG) from intestines to the adipose tissues (storage) and muscle/heart (energy)
Function of Very Low density lipoprotein (VLDL) (B-100)
Transfer endogenous triacylglycerol (TAG) from the liver to peripheral tissues (energy)
Function of Low density lipoprotein (LDL) (B-100)
Transport cholesterol from liver to peripheral tissues
Function of high density lipoprotein (HDL) (Apo-A)
1) Reservoir of apoproteins (apo-C II & apo-E)
2) HDL uptake of unesterified cholesterol
-it is the reverse of cholesterol transport, it transfer cholesterol from peripheral tissue to liver and excrete through bile
3) Esterification of cholesterol
- cholesterol esterified to cholesteryl ester and help to transport cholesterol out the blood and tissue
E:Lecithin cholesterol acyl transferase (LCAT)
