Lipid tests and Guidelines Flashcards
What are the high-risk CVD factors?
Htn smoking DM Familial hyperlipidemia Obesity Familial CVD younger than 55 male younger 65 female
What is the frequency you assess RISK for CVD
4-6 yrs
What interval do you SCREEN for lipids for someone with normal lipid levels?
every 5 years
What is considered low HDL?
Men <40
Women <50
What is optimal LDL?
<100
What is optimal total cholesterol?
<200
What is very high total cholesterol?
greater than or equal to 300
What is a very high triglyceride level
greater than or equal to 500
What is a very high LDL
greater than or equal to 190
What does high-intensity therapy for statins look like?
lowers LDLs by greater than or equal to 50%
What does moderate-intensity statin therapy look like?
lowers LDL by greater than or equal 30-50%
What is primary prevention?
prevention of the initial event
What is secondary prevention?
prevent of reoccurrence of event
What is the optimal ratio of TC to HDL ? What ratio would be considered atherosclerotic?
<3:1 optimal
>4:1 atherosclerotic
What is a complete lipid profile ?
TC
TG(fasting)
LDL
HDL
A pt has a TC that is 321 mg/dL and an HDL that is 33mg/dL. What should you order next?
full lipid panel because his TC is >200 and his HDL is <40
When do you screen children’s lipids when they have CVD risk?
at 2yr old or discovery of risk factor
What are high and moderate-intensity statin therapy goals?
High Lower LDL by greater than or equal to 50%
Moderate lower LDL by 30-50%
If the LDL is > or equal to 190 do you need to do an ASCVD risk assessment?
No start them on high-intensity statin
What do you do if a pt is btwn the ages of 40-75 yrs old and has DM?
Start on moderate-intensity statin
and assess risk for high intensity statin
When should you reorder a lipid panel after the initiation of statin therapy? How often do you follow up
reorder 4-12 weeks/ 1-3 months
Reassess 3-12 months
